Issues & Ideas
I strongly support taking care of our most vulnerable citizens, which includes access to quality healthcare, substance use rehabs, and mental health services. I believe that we as a community should help those less fortunate, the elderly, and children. As your councilmember, I will always stand by those needing help and this includes protecting affordable healthcare. My experience includes working with the Arizona Department of Health (ADHS) and the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS). If given the opportunity, I would like to work with city, state, and federal government officials in implementing a more simpler, lower cost, healthcare system.
One of my favorite topics in college was the subject of sustainability. How can we as Phoenicians plan our city in a way that helps, not hurts, future generations? As your councilmember, I will listen to scientists, engineers, and community members on how to best make our city more sustainable. I believe in green energy (solar, wind, water, and geothermal heat) and would like to see our city take steps towards making our air and water cleaner for generations to come. I do not deny that humans can contribute to climate change, and believe that we should begin to take steps in the right direction to help future generations.
Education is vital to our community. I support educators, school administrators, and the many parents that are seeking the best opportunities for their children. I believe school choice empowers parents to make the best decisions for their own families and at the same time improves traditional public schools through competition. I believe in giving every child an opportunity to have a good education. As your councilmember, I will do my best to collaborate with schools, teacher's unions, and parents to work towards improving our education system. Our youth is our future.
I am a supporter of the Phoenix police and fire departments. As your councilmember, I will do my best to ensure our first responders are trained properly and have all the tools available to best serve our community. I believe all Phoenicians should feel safe from the fear of crime, and of course, from police misconduct. If the opportunity arises, I would like to work with state and federal officials on prison reform, and how to best help the incarcerated transition back into society once they have fulfilled their sentencing.
With years of experience helping those experiencing homelessness in the Phoenix area, I have found that each individual needs compassion. As your councilmember, I will work with other city leaders to move towards ending mass homelessness in Phoenix. People that experience homelessness come from all walks of life. Some are running from abusive relationships, broken homes, struggling with substance use, mental health issues, and some are making the journey to reenter society from the prison system. Working with the courts, our current shelter system, and community nonprofits, I would like to implement new innovative ways to help our less fortunate citizens.
I understand why people desire to come to America. My great grandparents immigrated generations ago in hopes of a better future here. I have personally witnessed the many youth in immigration custody when I volunteered at an immigration orphanage for displaced children. I believe in immigration, but I have heard of too many horror stories of human trafficking. For this reason, I am a firm believer of following the correct paths to immigrate here from another county. As your councilmember, I will do what I can to protect the rights of immigrants, work with state and federal governments, and at the same time help stop human trafficking.
As someone that has worked with Housing and Urban Development (HUD) I know firsthand how people struggle for affordable housing. As your councilmember, I will work towards creating new affordable housing opportunities in Phoenix. I would also like to design a new program to help more Phoenicians be able to purchase their first home.
I have a heart for entrepreneurship and fully support local small businesses. As your councilmember, I will listen to business owners and help in anyway that I can to bring prosperity to Phoenix. Small businesses are the backbone of our community and I will work towards helping them succeed the best that I can.
